Donate Blood

Give the 'Gift of Life'!

Donate a pint of blood at Sound Shore Medical Center and give the "gift of life". Approximately 40% of all blood needed for SSMC patients is from Sound Shore's Blood Donor Program*.  The blood you donate stays right here in the community - neighbors helping neighbors.

To donate blood, you must be between the ages of 16 and 75 - individuals over age 76 need medical clearance from their physician- in good health, weigh at least 110 pounds, present a photo ID - either driver's license or passport and provide the last four digits of your social security number. You should also be free of cold or flu symptoms for 72 hours and not have had tattooing within the past 12 months.

Donating blood - from registration to post-donation - takes only about 45 minutes. The donor center is located at the Medical Center and is open Monday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Organizations wishing to sponsor a blood drive must have minimum participation of 30 donors. Sound Shore personnel will gladly help you organize the drive.

For more information on making a donation or to schedule a Blood Donor event for a civic group, school, church or synagogue, we invite you to contact Sound Shore's Blood Donor Coordinator at 914.365.3664.
