Outright Gifts of Cash (including check, money order, and credit card) are the most common form of giving to the medical center. Such gifts, contributed on an annual basis or pledged over a period of years, are vital to the Medical Center and support its general operating and capital needs, as required. Matching Gifts
Many businesses offer matching gift programs through which an employees gift to Sound Shore is matched by his or her employer. Matching gifts are credited to the individuals personal gift record. Ask your employer if there is such a program at your workplace.
Special Occasion Gifts

Wills and Bequests
Many individuals choose to perpetuate their generosity by including Sound Shore in their wills. Your attorney or members of the Sound Shore Medical Center Foundation staff can advise you about a number of planned giving options. Please use the following language to include the medical center in your will.
I give, devise and bequeath the sum of $ ____ (or ____% of the residue of my estate) to the Sound Shore Medical Center Foundation located in New Rochelle, New York for its general purposes.
Planned Giving Opportunities
Sound Shore Medical Center welcomes and encourages a full range of planned gift options including, gifts of life insurance, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, pooled income trusts, and gifts of real estate and other tangible personal property.
Gifts of Stock
Sound Shore Medical Center is pleased to accept gifts of appreciated or depreciated stock. Most securities are held by your bank and broker, in which case you may provide verbal or written instructions regarding your charitable intentions.
Gifts of appreciated securities enable donors to receive a full charitable deduction for the fair market value of the securities while reducing or avoiding capital gains taxes. Donors are advised to sell securities which have declined in value in order to establish a tax loss, and then donate the proceeds to Sound Shore Medical Center.
If you hold securities in certificate form please send the unendorsed certificates by Registered Mail or deliver them in person to Sound Shore Medical Center Foundation, 16 Guion Place, New Rochelle, New York 10802. A letter of transmittal describing your intentions and the purpose of the gift should be included. Under separate envelope, mail or deliver signed stock or bond power along with copy of your instruction letter.
Naming Opportunities
Sound Shore Medical Center provides benefactors and major donors with opportunities to contribute named gifts that may serve as a tribute to their dedication and commitment to the medical center. A current list of such opportunities, ranging from equipment and programs to rooms, hospital wings, and buildings may be obtained from the Sound Shore Foundation.
Nursing Scholarships
The Dorothea Hopfer School of Nursing, a major component of the Sound Shore Health System encourages private support in the form of Scholarships to assist academically gifted nursing students who require financial assistance. Special Events
Sound Shore Health System, Inc. maintains a full calendar of widely diverse special events enabling its friends and donors to contribute to the Medical Center while participating in enjoyable fund raising activities.
The Friends of SSMC
Founded in 1993, the Friends of SSMC strive to expand awareness of the programs and services offered at the Medical Center, increase community support and promote goodwill on behalf of SSMC and the families it serves. Chapters of the Friends are located throughout southern Westchester. Each chapter has developed its own unique approach to fundraising and increasing the visibility of the Medical Center in their community. Accents On Antiques
Located at 125 Wolfs Lane in Pelham, Accents On Antiques is a fine gifts, collectibles and antiques shop that specializes in the sale of antique and restored furniture, silver, china, tapestries and exquisite jewelry. Managed and staffed by volunteers, all proceeds from Accents are contributed to Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester. Pastoral Care Volunteers
Men and women who represent a range of faiths serve as liaisons between hospitalized patients and their religious community. Pastoral care volunteers also reach out to patients who do not have a member of the clergy assigned to visit them and strive to link patients with appropriate clergy or other religious leaders. Pastoral Care volunteers receive extensive education and training before assuming these responsibilities.

Teen Volunteers
A wide range of volunteer opportunities are available for young people, age 14 and older. Teen volunteers take photographs of newborns in the Nursery, participate in special events and health fairs, serve as friendly visitors and assist Medical Center staff in a variety of capacities.
Volunteers also staff the Information Desk, entertain and spend time with patients in the Nursing Home and the Adult Day Health Care Center, provide insurance counseling and information in the Health Access Program, assist with clerical and other duties in a variety of administrative and clinical departments, serve as hosts, translators and facilitators at conferences and other special events.
